Sylvester “Syl” Morrone passed away suddenly at home on January 15, 2026, and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A longtime member of Gramatan Village, Syl was a gentle, kindhearted man whose charm and quiet sense of humor brought warmth wherever he went.
George R. Mayer
George R. Mayer, devoted husband, father, restaurateur, attorney, and judge, died peacefully at age 87. Born in The Bronx to a family steeped in the restaurant business, George’s life was defined by dedication to family, bringing people together and adventure.

Marjorie Mir
Marjorie Mir, a longtime member of Gramatan Village, died at age 91 on July 26, 2025 after a long illness. A published poet and retired children’s librarian at various branches of the New York Public Library, Marjorie was born in Queens, educated at Columbia, and except for one year in Honolulu, Hawaii, lived in New York City and then Bronxville, where she gave poetry readings at the Reformed Church, Bronxville Public Library, and other Westchester venues.
Philip Sherman
Philip Sherman, 83, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024. He was a longtime resident of Bronxville, NY, and was born and raised in Flushing, NY and Mount Lebanon, PA. A graduate of the University of Michigan’s honors program. Following his graduation from Michigan, he traveled to India on a Fulbright Scholarship where he taught English. It was in India that his lifelong passion for Asia was sparked.

Warren Frederick Ilchman
Warren Frederick Ilchman, 91, died at home in Bronxville, NY, on November 21, 2024. Born in Denver, Warren was the husband of the late Alice Stone Ilchman, parent to Frederick and Sarah, father-in- law to Cassandra and Jacob, and grandfather to Ilaria and Alice. Warren was educated at Brown University (BA) and the University of Cambridge (PhD), where he held a Marshall Scholarship. He taught at Williams College and the University of California, Berkeley, receiving a Fulbright to India.

Patricia Anne Bader
Patricia Anne Bader (nee Keeler) of Bronxville, New York, passed away on July 27, 2024 at her home in Bronxville. Born and raised in White Plains, Pat was the oldest child of Francis Joseph Keeler and Laura Augusta (Cornwall) Keeler. A proud and loyal alumna of St. Bernard’s School, White Plains High School, Trinity College (’54), and Fordham University (Masters in Education ’55), she remained friends for life with many of her classmates.
